We started walt.id in 2021. Our founders have been working on decentralized identity since 2018 and our team consists of entrepreneurs and technologists (mostly engineers) from all over the globe. We’re a remote company and we’re backed by one of Europe’s most successful VCs.
We only work on big problems that have the potential to change the world forever. Today, we build the web’s missing identity layer. We do so by building the (open source) infrastructure that enables developers and organizations to build identity and trust into the web and their applications.

The Role
What you will be doing.
Every member of our tech team (incl. our CTO) is working multiple areas because we believe that breadth (not hyperspecialization) enables us to build the best possible company and products. For starters, you will be working in the following areas:
Engineering: You’ll work on our open source and enterprise products.
Dev Experience: You’ll deliver products with industry-leading developer experience and documentation.
Dev Ops: You’ll help us shorten our development lifecycle and deliver high quality software.
Support: You’ll help our “customers and developer success” team with your expertise and technical support (or potentially even work directly with our customers or the community).
R&D: You’ll work with cutting-edge technologies, be involved in research projects, develop proof-of-concepts and implementations that have never been built before.
Over time you’ll be able to tweak your role based on your preferences and put a focus on areas that you want to spend more time on.
Your skills & experience
What you bring to the table.
We’re looking for generalists (the jacks and janes of all trades) who are strong technologists:
Must haves
At least 5 years of experience as a developer or a technical degree (college, university).
Proficient in Kotlin or Java and the corresponding frameworks.
Experience in security, privacy, identity.
Familiar with building and deploying Microservices with Docker and Kubernetes.
Solid understanding of database modeling and design.
Ambition to work on Open Source and Linux.
Nice to haves
Experience with (large-scale) production systems.
Experience with developing/maintaining open source software/Github repos.
Experience in fields related to digital ID (e.g. SSI, eID/eIDAS, ID verification).
Experience with web development.
Your personality and non-technical skills.

You are a strong communicator (and fluent in English). You are candid and direct, yet respectful and kind.
You are naturally curious, humble, open-minded and have a strong drive to learn (particularly about new technologies) and grow (professionally, personally).
